Coffee Shop Romance, Portland

I’ve never actually been to Portland, Oregon, but this magical e:session has me ready to book my ticket! Thanks to Emily G Photographers and a sweet couple, I’m now dreaming of warm coffee shops and misty Portland days. What I love is that the photos capture what looks like their first date – hands held, soft kisses, long conversations and of course, coffee.  I can’t wait for the wedding photos, I know they will be special. If this engagement shoot is even a small preview of what is to come then we are certainly in for treat!

From Emily G –  These two lovely ladies met while singing actually. Both took part in competitive vocal groups in collage and met while competing. They are both extremely talented. Some might actually recognize Courtney (short hair) from the NBC show “The Sing Off” season 1 & 2.

The location of the engagement shoot was originally a different part of town but due to rain we ended up in a lovely and very Portland coffee shop and bar. Both places had personality, and kept us dry and cozy on a rainy day. Really when shooting beautiful people in love the backdrop fades away anyway. :) They will be getting married this summer at the West End Theater in downtown Portland OR.

Personality and playfulness was my thought when I saw Courtney and Kelly in this fun and sweet engagement session. I love that Alexis at Alexis Stein Photography keeps it simple but oh so sweet, blending her style with this couple’s adorable awesomeness. Hoodies and kisses with love. It’s Delightful.

Texas Starrs: Kristi & Lisa

Pure serenity and zen is the theme for these two! Lyncca Harvey of Lyncca Harvey Photography  got some great shots of Kristi and Lisa Starr in this Texas Japanese Garden. Surrounded by the beautiful scenery, their loving expressions were a natural fit for this serene locale. They tie the knot this weekend!

From Kristi Starr — On October 10, 2010, after three and a half years together, we were married in West Dover, Vermont, just the two of us. Lisa proposed over a surprise romantic picnic by candlelight which she had setup in our living room. Even though we had already discussed it and decided together to get married, her proposal – with my full name (first, middle, and last) – touched me beyond words and brought tears to my eyes. What a true privilege it is to be able to say “we are getting married”. And now that we have the formal legal wedding out of the way, we are having the “big wedding” with family and friends, including a repeat ceremony, dinner and dancing here in Dallas, Texas, this October, 2011. I’m happy to say my wife will be my bride once again, and I know that as soon as marriage is legalized at the federal level for all couples, we’ll do it again a third time!

California Love: Shavonda & Naomi

Words can not describe how much we love this engagement session with Naomi and Shavonda. But then again, we are totally biased. We were introduced to this wonderful couple through their over the top fantastic shoot from Sarah Maren Photographers Since then we’ve gotten to know them personally and can attest that the love and affection that oozes from these photos is so genuine. Good people + wicked shoes + Sarah Maren Photographers = This ridiculously splendid e-session. What a winning formula. You can imagine that the wedding rocked! We’ve already seen the wedding  photos and they are equally as amazing.  The wedding photos are coming soon. promise.

The proposal storyShavonda proposed to Naomi in October 2008 while California still allowed same-sex marriage and before Prop 8 destroyed the wedding dreams of thousands of LGTB couples in California.  Naomi had no idea that Shavonda had purchased a ring and was planning to propose so the proposal was truly a surprise.  Shavonda had every intention on proposing on Christmas but she is incredibly impatient and she just couldnt hold it any longer! One night while we were settling into bed for the night Shavonda decided that was the perfect moment to ask Naomi to become her wife.  Both Naomi and Shavonda have huge sweet tooths and Naomi mentioned all day that she wanted a Snikers bar.  As they lay in bed Shavonda told Naomi she had a surpise for her.  Naomi said “OOOHHH is it a Snikers?”  Shavonda told her to get up, turn on the light, and close her eyes.  When she opened them Shavonda gave her a box with the ring inside.  Naomi’s first reaction was “This is NOT a Snikers!!”  Naomi opened the box and Shavonda asked her if she would spend her life by her side.  Naomi said “Yes” and the rest is history.

Chi-town Classic & Cool

Love, LOVE these vintage engagement shoots from around the Windy City. Amanda and Katrina are obviously a couple after my own heart. Alix and Jen from Free to BE Photographers really out did themselves with these photos. Makes sense that they are said to ‘specialize in couples who are having non-traditional celebrations  in off-beat locales (we took that right from their website)’. Reminiscent of an era of lazy summer picnics, plaid blankets and cold Coca-Colas. Add in matching Converse, a lovely blue dress, vintage suitcases and a train for the makings of an awesome shoot. Can’t wait to see what this couple and their photographers Alix and Jen come up with for the wedding? We’ll be waiting…so impatiently.

Here’s what Amanda says:
 —  “Last summer, Katrina played me like a fiddle and conned me into thinking she was taking me to rural Tennessee for our anniversary and let me tell you, this city girl was shaking in her platform heels! But upon check-in at the airport, our tickets revealed we were actually going to Toronto, Canada! After a momentary freak out about not having the proper attire for Toronto and basing all my outfits around my “pretend you’re a country girl” boots, she handed me a guidebook and off we went. She has always been good at these little sneaky love attacks, as we call them. Everything from surprising me with an abundance of pink school supplies for sweetest day in my first year of graduate school to grand things, like this! She took me to a shoe museum (she really loves me!), Niagara Falls, and then the amazing surprise of 8th row tickets to the Ray LaMontagne (*Editor’s note: I love Ray LaMontagne too) concert in Toronto. (I am a huge Ray fan and had been quite disappointed because she hadn’t been able to take off work for his local show in Chicago, mere days before we left! Little did I know…) It was one of the best evenings of my life, and during our favorite Ray song, she put a ring on it! Rewind to the hotel room before we left for the surprise evening: Me-”I don’t need to wear waterproof mascara, right? Nahhhh.” She put a ring on it and I proceeded to cry for about 2 hours! Tears, in a never ending flow down my face, now makeup less, and busting with happiness, I felt like I was right where I was supposed to be in life and that our lives were just beginning. Together.”
